Navigating App

Apps can be accessed from the Explore pane, under Space. By default, every space will have the Standard App. The Standard App contains a functional area called Public, which includes stories and rules. Other apps created by users will be accessible from the Explore pane to users with the appropriate permissions. Click on the app name to view and manage contents and permissions for the app. All the functional areas contained in the app, along with the sheets, models, rules, boards, and workbooks, will be listed in the app.

An app can be secured. When secured, the app creator is assigned as the app owner by default. Only the app owner can grant permission to users in the space to access selective objects and data in the app, as well as recalculate metrics and export metric details.

Access App

When an app is selected from the Explore pane, the app details will be displayed in the Catalog and Metrics tabs. If the app is secure, an additional Permissions tab will also be shown.

Catalog

The app catalog will list all the objects contained in the app. The objects will be grouped under functional areas. The catalog table will list objects by name, title, and type (e.g., functional area, sheet, folder). From the level 2 header, you can search for specific objects by typing in the search bar.

Metrics

The Metrics tab of the app contains a list of all the metrics under the app. The metrics are listed by the sheet they are created in, metric name, data type, formula, applies to, data protection rule applied to the metric, dimensions used in the metric, and the functional area to which the sheet belongs.

From the level 2 header, clicking the ellipsis button will show the option to export. In a secure app, the app owner will also see the option to recalculate metrics.

Permissions

The Permissions tab will show a list of roles that can access the app, including the role name, number of users assigned, and actions for each role. The actions for roles include:

  • User Assignment: Assign roles to users in the space.

  • Role Assignment: Update permissions and access to app objects and data.

  • Copy: Create a copy of the role.

From the level 2 header, you can use the search option to look for specific users. The plus option allows the creation of new roles within the app.
