Master Data Types and Management
Master data is the core business data that support the organization's critical business processes and is used as a base for any transaction. It is the typical source of data shared across all the departments in an enterprise. Master data has business-critical information about customers, suppliers, partners, products, employees, accounts and many more.
An example of product master data could be the data set comprising of the product name, product description and unit price.
Enterprise Structure guides the users to define and create the fields and maintain the master data for these fields manually or through integration with a source system. The Enterprise Structure also allows the user to maintain the relationship between the fields as per the organizational structure.
Field Types for Master Data
Based on the purpose of the field to be created, specific type is assigned to classify the field. Field types are the list of different types of fields that can be created.
Account - Account type field is the Metric field where the chart of accounts and other statistical details are maintained. If the users want to maintain different accounts they need to select type as account. For example users can enter the complete structure of profit and loss statement or Balance Sheet in Account Dimension.
General - Any information which does not fall into the above definitions can be of General type. General type field has two (2) sub-type:
- Organization subtype: Used for the organizational structure lists of entity
- Partner unit subtype: Commonly used in the Consolidation reporting to show the third-party details for the intercompany transactions
Scenario - Scenario type is the field type used for the reporting category like Actual, Budget, Plan, forecast and others which are alike.
Time (Data) - If users want to maintain the information relating to the time, they need to select the type as time. Standard Time classification are Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly.
Currency - The user can maintain the information relating to the exchange rates while performing currency translation, they need to select the type as Currency. Any Dimension that deals with the information of Currency must be of the type of Currency. Another example can be if the dimension being maintained has information related to the currency that users want to run the translation, then this type must be chosen. Group subtype can also be activated on this Field type. Group subtype currency can be used by the user to do the consolidation reporting on the group currency level.
Ownership - This is automatically created when a reference model is created in Consolidation model.
Importing Master Data
Only CSV and Excel files can be imported. The format of files should be aligned with the format of JustPerform.
To import data, start by selecting the field where you want to import the data. In the level 2 header, click on the Ellipsis icon and choose the Import option from the dropdown menu. Click on the "CHOOSE FILE" button to browse and select the file you wish to import from its source location. You have different options for handling the imported data as described below.

| Replace | Selecting this option will update the entire master data with the contents of the import file |
| Upload | Choose this option to review the import details before saving |
| Upload and save | Choose this option to view the import details after saving |
Once you have reviewed and finalized the import details, you can click on the Save icon in the level 2 header to save the imported data to the database. If you want to directly save the import file to the database without manual review, select the "UPLOAD AND SAVE" option.
Exporting Master Data
To export master data:
- Go to Fields under Modelling on the left side panel of the navigation pane
- Select the field you want to export
- From the level 2 header, select the Ellipsis icon dropdown and choose the Export option
- The master data of the desired field will be exported under the download folder
Note: Fields can be added to one or more models in the Space. Enterprise Structure guides the users to define and create the fields and maintain the master data for these fields manually or through integration with a source system.
