Navigating Apps

Apps can be accessed from the Explorer. By default, every space will have the Standard App. The Standard App contains a functional area called Public, which includes stories and rules. Other apps created by users will be accessible from the Explorer to users with the appropriate permissions.

Click on the app name to view and manage contents and permissions for the app. All the functional areas contained in the app, along with the sheets, models, rules, boards, and workbooks, will be listed in the app.

Access An App

Select an app from the Explorer, and the app details will be displayed in the Catalog, Metrics, and Localization tabs. If the app is a secured app, and you are one of the app owners, an additional Permission tab will also be shown.

Catalog Tab

The app catalog lists all the objects contained in the app. The objects will be grouped under functional areas. The catalog table lists objects by name, title, and type (e.g., functional area, sheet, folder). From the level 2 header, you can search for specific objects by typing in the search bar.

Metrics Tab

The Metrics tab contains a list of all the metrics within the app. By default, the Metric tab displays in a tree view. To switch to table view, click the Metrics icon on the level 2 header.

In the table view, the metrics are listed by the sheet they are created in, metric name, data type, formula logic if it is a formula metric, Applies-To dimensions added to the metric, data protection rule applied to the metric, dimensions included in the sheet containing the metric, and the functional area to which the metrics belong.

The level 2 header provides the following options:

  • Search

  • Toggle between tree and table views

  • Export metric details as an Excel sheet via the ellipsis menu

  • Recalculate metrics via the ellipsis menu. This option is available exclusively to app owners within a secured app.

For more information about metrics, see Definition and Purpose of Metrics.

Localization Tab

Administrators can manage translations of elements within the app in the Localization tab.

Permission Tab

The Permission tab is available when the app is a secured app, and you are one of the app owners.

The Permission tab shows a list of roles that can access the app, including the role name, number of users assigned, and actions for each role. The actions for roles include:

  • User Assignment: Assign roles to users in the space.

  • Role Assignment: Update permissions and access to app objects and data.

  • Copy: Create a copy of the role.

From the level 2 header, you can use the search option to look for specific roles. The plus icon allows the creation of new roles within the app.
