v26.06: Conversations
Conversations is a collaborative discussion layer embedded directly in JustPerform. Users can open a contextual thread anchored to any cell or report, collaborate with teammates using @mentions, and engage the built-in Lineos AI assistant for on-demand analysis and summaries -- all without leaving the application.
With Conversations, users no longer need to take discussions outside the application -- to emails, chat messages, or separate meetings -- only to lose the connection between the conversation and the data that prompted it. Every thread is anchored directly to the cell or report being reviewed, with a snapshot of the data captured at creation so context is preserved permanently, even as the underlying numbers change.
The Conversations Panel
The Conversations panel supports three display modes:
Mode |
Description |
|---|---|
Floating panel |
A popup (400x560px) fixed at the bottom-right of the screen. The header shows a dark background with the Lineos logo, thread title, and mode-switch controls. |
Side panel |
A fixed panel (380px wide) anchored to the right side of the screen, below the L1 and L2 headers. |
Full-screen |
A two-column layout: thread list sidebar on the left, active thread content on the right. The sidebar contains the mode bar, (+New) button, search input, and scrollable thread list. |
The active thread is preserved when switching modes. Filter the thread list using the toggle bar:
Filter |
Shows |
|---|---|
All |
All conversation threads and direct chat sessions. |
Conversations |
Cell and report threads only. |
Chats |
Direct 1-on-1 chat sessions with workspace users or Lineos Support. |
Opening a Conversation Thread
To open a conversation:
-
In any sheet, report, or input snippet, right-click a cell.
-
Select Open Conversation, then choose:
For This Cell -- creates a thread anchored to the cell, capturing the cell label, formatted value, metric name, and dimension context.
For Entire Report -- creates a thread for the full report, capturing up to 200 rows x 50 columns of visible grid data and dimension context.
The Side panel opens with the new thread active.
To browse existing threads without creating a new one, right-click a cell and select View Conversations.
Thread titles are auto-generated by Lineos in the background (3-8 words) after the thread is created.
Note: In an Open Conversation thread, @mention Lineos Support to receive an AI response. Lineos does not respond automatically unless mentioned.
Data Snapshots
Each thread captures a data snapshot at creation time. Snapshots are immutable -- they always reflect the data state at the moment the thread was opened, regardless of subsequent changes to the underlying report.
Thread type |
Snapshot content |
|---|---|
Cell thread |
Cell label (e.g. "Cell D5"), formatted cell value, metric name, and dimension tags displayed as colored pills. The cell value respects the user's preferred number and date format. |
Report thread |
First 5 rows of the visible grid (expandable to full snapshot), dimension tags, and a "Captured [relative time]" timestamp. |
Snapshots start collapsed in the panel. Click the snapshot header to expand.
Asking AI Directly
To start an AI-driven session from a cell or report:
Right-click a cell.
Select Ask AI, then choose About This Cell or About Entire Report.
The Side panel opens and Lineos automatically analyzes the data snapshot and posts a response.
In Ask AI threads, Lineos responds automatically to every message.
Replying in a Thread
To post a reply:
Click the reply input at the bottom of the active thread.
Type your message. Markdown formatting is supported, including tables.
Press Enter to send. Press Shift+Enter to insert a line break.
Using @mentions
To @mention a user or Lineos:
In the reply input, type @.
Select from the suggestions dropdown. Lineos Support appears first, followed by workspace users filtered by display name.
Use the Up/Down arrow keys to navigate; press Enter to insert; press Escape to dismiss.
Mentioned users are added to the thread's access list and receive an in-app notification. @mentioning Lineos Support triggers an automatic AI reply.
AI Actions in a Thread
Two AI action buttons are available above the reply input in any active thread:
Button |
Description |
|---|---|
Summarize |
Posts a 3-5 bullet-point summary of the thread and its data snapshot as an AI reply. |
Analyze |
Posts a data analysis report of the thread's data snapshot as an AI reply, including markdown tables where relevant. |
Both buttons are disabled while Lineos is generating a response.
Starting a New Discussion or Chat
To start a new discussion or chat from the panel, click (+), then choose:
Lineos Support -- starts a direct AI chat session. Lineos responds to all messages automatically.
Discussion -- hover to expand the submenu. Select a specific sheet to start a discussion with a snapshot of that sheet's data, or select Nothing specific for a free-form discussion with no data context attached.
To start a 1-on-1 chat with a workspace user, switch to the Chats tab, click (+), and select the user from the list.
Adding Context to an Open Conversation
To append data to an already-open conversation:
With a conversation open, right-click any cell.
Select Add to current conversation > For This Cell or For Entire Report.
A snapshot of the selected data is added as a new message in the active thread. This option appears in the right-click menu only when a conversation is currently open.
Participant Display
Each thread in the feed shows the first 3 participant avatars as colored pips. A +N indicator appears when there are more participants. Hover over the avatar stack to see all participants listed by name.
Resolving a Conversation
Click Resolve in the panel header to mark a conversation as closed. Resolved threads:
Appear dimmed across all list views.
Show a Resolved badge on feed cards.
Remain accessible in the full-screen panel history.
Click Unresolve to reopen a resolved thread.
Deleting a Reply
Hover over your own reply and click the delete icon to remove it. The delete option appears only on your own replies. Root comments (the thread-opening message) and replies from other participants cannot be deleted.
Notifications
The notification bell in the app header displays an unread badge count when you have been @mentioned. The count updates every 30 seconds. Click a notification to navigate to the relevant sheet or report and open the corresponding thread.
Searching Conversations
In full-screen mode, type in the search input in the thread list sidebar to filter threads by title, message content, or author name. The list updates in real time. If no threads match, the list shows "No conversations found." Clear the input to restore the full list.
