v25.10:  VDT Tree View in Metrics Tab

The Metrics tab in an app or functional area includes a tree view visualization option that displays metrics in a hierarchical Value Driver Tree (VDT) format. This "Metric Tree" option enables users to visualize and analyze metric relationships through an intuitive tree structure. The tree view provides a comprehensive understanding of metric dependencies and hierarchies at the app and functional area level.

The tree view includes visual indicators through color coding and symbols for different metric types including Input, Formula, Summary, Parent, Linked, and External metrics. Users can navigate the tree with expand and collapse controls, with the expand-all function intelligently limited to three levels for optimal performance. Each metric node displays detailed information in a side panel, including the newly added formula visibility for formula-type metrics, providing complete context for analysis without leaving the tree view interface.

Key Benefits:

  • Users can view metrics in an intuitive tree structure showing relationships and dependencies.

  • Color coding and symbols instantly identify Input, Formula, Summary, Parent, Linked, and External metric types.

  • The three-level expand limit ensures smooth performance even with thousands of metrics.

  • Side panels display complete metric information including formulas for analysis.

  • Users can switch between list view and tree view based on their analysis needs.

VDT View in Metrics Tab

The VDT view in Metrics tab displays metrics in a hierarchical Value Driver Tree format. The tree view operates at the app level, allowing users to visualize the complete hierarchy of metrics within their application and understand the relationships between different metric types.

The tree view interface includes visual indicators to differentiate between metric types.

  • The legend displays color codes and symbols for input metrics, formula metrics, summary metrics, parent metrics, linked metrics, and external metrics.

  • The navigation controls include "Collapse all nodes" to fold all nodes back to the app level and "Expand all nodes" to reveal the tree structure.

  • The toggle control to show or hide standalone metrics, providing flexibility in viewing metrics that exist independently of the main hierarchy.

The Metric Details pane displays comprehensive information about that metric when users select any metric node in the tree. This side pane operates in read-only mode for analysis purposes, ensuring users cannot inadvertently modify metric configurations while exploring the tree. The pane includes all standard metric properties fetched directly from the metric page, with the notable addition of formula visibility for formula-type metrics.

Using VDT View in Metrics Tab

  1. Select an app in the Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the Metrics tab within your application.

The Metrics tab has a list view by default.

  3. Select the Metric Tree button in the level 2 header to switch to the hierarchical visualization.

  4. Users can view the tree structure with their app name as the root node.

  5. Use the legend in the bottom to understand the color coding and symbols:

Each color and symbol represent Input, Formula, Summary, Parent, Linked, and External metrics. Each metric type has a distinct visual indicator.

  6. Navigate through the hierarchy by expanding and collapsing specific branches as needed.

    • Select Collapse all nodes to fold all nodes back to the app level.

    • Select Expand all nodes to expand nodes up to three levels.

    • Expand individual nodes beyond three levels manually by clicking the expand icon.
